Tim HeadUnlike a lot of British artists who descend on London from their birth towns to study, Tim Head was born in the capital and promptly moved off to the north. He studied at Newcastle Upon Tyne University before heading back south to the world famous St Martin's School of Art.He first became famous for creating room-sized installations, which would often involve the use of cameras and projectors. The projections on the wall would create an apparent photographic image on a wall and therefore challenge the thin border between appearance and reality. Head consistently explores illusion and commercial imagery, which adds to his work, which focuses on a world where there is no meaning beyond the surface - just a murky reality of blank spaces and shifting shadows. His work has been acquired by such major collections as the Guggenheim, Tate, and Victoria and Albert Museum. |
